What should you do if you are arrested for DUI?

Being arrested for DUI in Orlando is a serious matter.  You need the proper knowledge to make the situation as easy as possible and you need an experience DUI Defense lawyer handling your case. Remember these 3 things if you’re arrested for DUI:

1)      Cooperate: Cooperate and comply with the police officer’s requests when you’re pulled over.  Don’t get agitated or argumentative.  The police are doing their job of enforcing the law.  Comply with their directions. You do not need to tell them whether or not you’ve been drinking. You may decline to answer the question, but keep in mind sobriety testing is very likely to follow. You may also decline the sobriety test, but THEN keep in mind that an arrest and a chemical test are likely to follow.

2)      Consent:  Consent to the chemical test. This is also known as the “breath” test.  Mandatory penalties for refusing the chemical test include a 12 month license suspension.  For first time offenders, failing the breath test results in a minimum of a 6 month suspension with eligibility for a hardship reinstatement. Automatic consequences of a refusal are more severe, especially in cases of a first time DUI.

3)      Call:  Following a detainment period at the police station, you will be released after a DUI arrest. You need a DUI Defense attorney who is experienced in the local court circuit.  The lawyers at Finebloom and Haenel are focused in the area of DUI Defense.  We provide our clients with over 20 years of combined legal experience.
